Fast Face…

Have you ever heard the expression ‘fast face’?

It’s when you are happily going about your life and – suddenly, without warning – you glance in the mirror and you appear very different.

By that, I don’t mean that you notice the gradual ageing process that has been happening over the years…

I mean you see a sudden, dramatic drop!

It’s as if gravity has increased overnight and pulled your skin down from your bones.

Now, let me make it clear.

Ageing is a privilege and I absolutely know that older faces are amazing, full of personality, wisdom and experience.

We should embrace the obvious truth that women (like men) DO age, and that there is so much beauty in that.

But I’ll admit to you that I don’t love the fact that these days I seem to look tired and grumpy ALL the time… even when I’m not.

It’s like my face has started going to sleep when I am not paying attention.

I know from my years doing Pilates that you can ‘wake up’ muscles that have weakened or atrophied, so that they start doing their job properly again.

It’s a case of reconditioning them, so that they do the hard work, even when you’re not concentrating on them.

But if your body becomes healthier and more toned with exercise, then surely, the same is true for your face muscles?

So it was with this in mind that I recently decided to try face yoga.

It’s a form of training for your face muscles.

Apparently, it keeps them strong and alert so that they do their job instead of giving up the ghost which makes sense to me!

On Instagram I’d been following a very popular face yoga practitioner who posted a LOT of amazing ‘before and after’ photos that caught my attention.

So I quickly invested in her training.

But this turned out to be a mistake.

Why Even the Best Teacher is Not for Everyone

Now, before I go on, I need to say this…

This woman is a GREAT teacher.

Perhaps she is even the BEST face yoga teacher in terms of talent, knowledge and abilities.

She obviously knows her stuff and she looks great.

But as I started following her recommended exercises I realised that I’d have to spend 30-40 mins every morning doing them.

That might be okay for some people, but I’m a little too busy and impatient for that.

What’s more, there was this constant niggling voice in my head.

“She’s young… of course her skin looks smooth and perfectly lifted!”

It didn’t feel like she was someone I could aspire to be, or who would understand my specific needs as a middle aged woman.

What I really needed was someone who was more like me to show me what to do.

So I hunted around for alternatives.

That’s when I found (and signed up for a course from) my current teacher.

She’s my age (53), looks amazing and her exercises take about 7 mins a day, which I can manage easily.

I have only recently started but I’ll report back if have any success.😉

However, my point in telling you this is that there is a guide, coach or mentor for everyone…

But sometimes the first person you try isn’t the best one for you.

And sometimes the most qualified or experienced person isn’t the right one for you either.

For instance, I’ve had many students tell me that they tried other course creation training before and couldn’t get on with them….

And it was my training that actually showed them how to move forward.

Equally, I’m sure there are students that might prefer other course creation experts, who have a different style and approach.

That’s ok. There is more than enough space for all of us.

The same goes for you.

You’ll Be the Right Guide for the Right Person

You might be looking around at other course creators, mentors and coaches in your field of interest, and worrying that they have the edge.

Maybe they have awards and accolades…

Maybe they’ve been doing it longer….

Maybe they’ve had more career or personal success.

But that doesn’t make them the right mentor for everyone – because we all look for different qualities in those who teach us.

It could be that they are too pushy for some… too high level… too technical… too intimidating…

Perhaps they just don’t have the right kind of world outlook, or the right sense of humour for certain customers to truly connect with them.

But YOU could be perfect.

And this might be because of your imperfections, not despite them.

For example, you might worry that you’re too old or too young…

You might worry that your accent is too posh, or not posh enough…

Or you might even worry that you haven’t done enough face yoga lately!! 😊

Whatever it is that concerns you, ignore that doubting inner voice.

Because what you think of as a disadvantage might be a plus for someone looking for a teacher that they feel is more like them.

As I say, it’s important to get the right match.

Equally, if you’ve tried creating a course with someone else (ie. not me!) and it hasn’t worked out, this doesn’t mean that creating a course isn’t for you.

It might just be that you didn’t have the right teacher (for you).

Now I can’t guarantee that I’m your perfect fit, but I might just be – and there’s only one way to find out.
