I’d like to introduce you to someone.
You’re going to be great friends in the future.
Well – I think you will be anyway…
That is, IF you consider the advice I’m about to give you.
So without further ado…
Say ‘hello’ to the future YOU!
Yes, weird though it may sound, the person I want you to meet is ‘you’.
She looks like you…
She talks like you…
She IS you…
But this ‘you’ is about 6 months, maybe a year older.
And I have to say, the older you is looking and feeling great, despite a little bit of time passing.
In fact, you’re on really good form.
Why?
Because the ‘now you’ has helped the ‘future you’ be in a much better place.
And for that act of bravery, ‘future you’ is very pleased with you indeed.
“You’re a bloomin’ star”, says future you.
Because you’ve taken a series of actions that, while new, sometimes tricky and time-consuming in the short term, have put the ‘future you’ in clover.
Now, just in case your head is a bit scrambled by all of this, let me explain what I am going on about.
Why it’s worth experiencing ‘pain’ now
As a reader of these emails, it is likely that you are weighing up your options at the moment regarding your future perhaps you are considering creating an online course or are already in the process of creating your first one.
You might be asking questions like…
Do I have it in me to create an online course?
Do I have the motivation or ability?
Have I got the time or the energy?
And that’s completely understandable.
I won’t lie to you.
There is an element of ‘pain involved’ to get anything like this started.
A bit like trying to push a boulder down a hill, it takes effort to get it moving, before it then picks up its own steam.
To get going, you need to find time (maybe sacrifice a few things)… follow training to get to grips with how it’s done… deal with a few bits of tech that might be unfamiliar at first… learn some new skills… find a bit of inner drive.
None of these things need to be obstacles, of course – there’s nothing about setting up a course that will absolutely stump you so that you cannot continue…
And if you aren’t already a student, remember I can help you with anything you need if you are part of my Course Creation Academy (if not then please do watch my free workshop training to get started here).
However, I won’t pretend it doesn’t take some effort.
Thing is, it’s more a psychological effort than anything…
You need to take a brave step into the unknown, leaving your comfort zone for something new.
Like anything new in life, it’s intimidating at first – which is why so many people don’t bother to act in the first place and remain where they feel ‘safe’.
They dream, rather than “do”.
However, there is a technique for getting past this.
It’s what I call the ‘future you’ technique.
Rather than simply worry about all the little struggles and hassles that you will face in the short term (all the ‘pain’ as I call it)…
Instead, imagine a future version of you.
The you in six months to a year’s time.
That ‘you’ is extremely glad that you were willing to make a few sacrifices, go through some struggles and experience a bit of pain…
Because, thanks to your excellent effort, you are now in possession of your own online course.
Something which is earning you an income…
Of which you are proud as punch.
And this is only the beginning of a new journey where you have more freedom and choice about what you do with your life, day to day, week to week.
Because you now KNOW the process of creating a course.
You now KNOW the obstacles (and how to surmount them).
And you KNOW how to create another course… and another, and another, and another.
That ‘pain’ you went through seems more than worth it for the result you have.
So can you see how this mental trick works?
It’s basically putting yourself in your own shoes, but in the future, and being as good to your future self as possible.
This is a technique that I often use myself.
For instance…
Why the ‘me now’ is delighted with the past ‘me’
Last week we had a few days in the country to spend some time with the family, seeing as the weather was nice and we weren’t going abroad (alas our flight was, unsurprisingly, cancelled).
When I do consultancy work or events, income coming in relies on me being present. It needs me to be there.
But I’ve now structured my business so it can be evergreen. It can run and deliver content to my customers even when I’m away.
And by the miracle of evergreen sales funnels (if you are a CCA student…look out for the new bonus course coming your way on how to set up your very own evergreen sales funnel) the sales keep coming in too.
In fact over those 3 days £31,056 in income still flowed into my business.
And when I came back, there weren’t any mishaps I had to deal with.
I was delighted with my old self.
“Well done, younger me!” I thought.
Anyway, I highly recommend you try this thought experiment yourself.
When you face a task that’s boring, painful, time-consuming or intimidating, think about the future you and how they’ll be so happy you took action!
Imagine taking a holiday where you are still bringing in sales and delivering content (even though you are relaxing in the sun!)
Oh, and if you do decide to take the plunge with your own course, then do email me and I’ll let you know how I can help with my Course Creation Academy.
