I did NOT win the genetic lottery when it comes to my gums.
At a glance, my teeth might look okay…
I mean, yes, I should probably get them whitened and straightened but it’s not as if people recoil in horror as soon as I smile at them.
However, appearances can be deceptive…
Truth is, there’s always something going wrong with my teeth and gums ‘behind the scenes’.
Inflammation, recession, abscesses, nerve pain… you name it!
These problems inevitably involve me handing over vast sums of money to all manner of dental specialists.
The highly paid specialist will then do AWFUL things to my mouth while I lie there, mortified, clenching the arms of the dental chair until my knuckles turn white.
And here’s the galling thing…
It doesn’t even make me look better!
The whole process is simply to stop me being in acute pain – or to prevent my teeth from falling out!
The sad fact is, no matter how well I do in business, I’ll probably always have to work to pay for my gums. 😉
Anyway, here’s the real reason I’m telling you this…
How a Simple Trick Changed Everything
Last week I went to a new specialist hygienist.
I hate this experience, usually…
The cold water painfully irritates my rapidly shrinking gums (If you know you know)… and the cold air of the suction machine is like nails scraping down a blackboard.
But this time the lady did something very sweet and kind (and so, so easy) which changed everything.
She used WARM water and WARM suction.
There it was…
This simple little alteration to the process totally transformed the experience for me!
Of course, the hygienist still had to do some pretty gruesome things to my mouth.
But she did it with kindness and patience – and thanks to the lack of searing nerve pain from cold water, I wasn’t on edge the whole time.I paid almost DOUBLE what I normally do for this specialist hygiene experience…
But I tell you what…
I’D DO IT AGAIN!
So what’s all of this got to do with the price of fish 😉
I’ve been seeing top dentists for years and no one else has ever done this before.
So it goes to show that often we don’t really know what we know!Or to put it another way…
What might seem obvious to us might be totally mind-blowing to someone else.
For instance, if this amazing specialist dental practise wanted to, they could create an online course that taught other practises how to improve the experience for their clients (it’s not just the warm water trick but many other things they do that makes the whole experience better).
Just a few simple tricks and techniques… and they could charge DOUBLE!
You can easily imagine dental businesses eagerly paying for those secrets, right?
Secrets that would make patients more comfortable (and more likely to return and perhaps pay more).
Now just think…
What might YOU know that seems simple, obvious and ‘old hat’ to you… and yet might utterly transform the fortunes of someone else who DOESN’T know it?
To give you an example…
The Small Things Can Make the Biggest Difference
I often have Course Creation Academy students write to me about things that have helped them when they go through my training.
Often these are just little extras, tips, tools or resources…. little nuggets of information that I find that have helped me along the way.
And yet students often tell me that these nuggets are GAMECHANGERS!
Sometimes they’ve struggled with a problem for ages…
Like Nykola who said:
“I needed I’ve taught for 29 years but I’ve tried to create online courses in the past and I’ve just known that something was missing. This course was very very thorough… it’s been excellent. It’s been worth the money that I’ve invested”
It’s often about a simple tweak I share with them that puts them on the right path… or it makes something that used to take ages suddenly quicker or easier.
Often they didn’t KNOW that this was the solution they needed, so they never sought it out, and never asked me for it during my other trainings.
In fact Cara M illustrated this so beautifully when she contacted me to say:
“I’ve learned so much…even things I didn’t know I needed”
Which is why it’s so important to share what you know – right down to the tiny tricks, tips, tools and techniques
you’ve picked up, no matter how obvious they seem.
They might be things you don’t realise are useful to people.
They might be things you’ve been doing so long, so effortlessly, that you’ve assumed (wrongly) that they’re just common sense, and everyone knows about them.
Can you see what I’m driving at here?
You have so much more to offer than you can possibly realise.
Of course, some of what you share won’t be brand new to your student (is there anything really original these days?) but what’s most of value is the unique path which YOU have taken.
Think of every time you failed… overcame a problem… or created a solution to an annoying issue…
These little bits of knowledge and practical guidance will be absolute GOLD for a person with less experience.
And it will make it VERY worth their time and money to learn from you.
