There’s a series on Apple TV called Slow Horses.
It stars Gary Oldman and it’s about a team of burnt-out rejects from MI5 who keep getting caught up in violent escapades.
Although the word ‘slow’ is in the title, these guys are constantly racing against time.
Running to stop a bomb going off… racing to steal a document before a colleague gets shot… fleeing a building before armed gunmen burst in…
And when they’re not running, jumping and driving at high speeds, they’re being followed by assassins… or they’re on the tail of suspects…
Even a drink at the pub usually turns into some kind of drama.
As I watch shows like this I wonder, “When do these people get time off? Do they ever sit on the sofa and watch Netflix?”
But then again…
I’ve not been able to watch Slow Horses or any of my favourite Netflix TV series these past few weeks.
Because I’m currently working on a project that is taking up a LOT of my time.
It’s not a course – this work is linked to the other part of my business and, I have to say, it’s REALLY intense.
No, I’m not running to stop a bomb or rescue a colleague…
(Not yet, anyway! 😂)
But I’m constantly thinking about this project… talking about it with my business partner (my husband!)… writing material… organising staff and freelancers… dealing with obstacles and tech hiccups.
There are so many moving parts to this project that have to work together – slide presentations, live presentations, email marketing, sales promotions and streaming technology – and I need to be on top of ALL of them.
So this is not something I can leave to run in the background…
It requires me to focus on it every single day – and in the evenings, too, because I can’t properly relax when my brain is fizzing with thoughts about what needs to be done next.
Don’t get me wrong – I do like a challenge – but I’m missing my four-day weeks and peaceful weekends!
What’s more, this business project keeps me in a constant state of ‘needing’ more time.
And this can be quite frustrating.
Because time becomes this precious commodity, which you CRAVE but can never quite attain.
It suddenly becomes more valuable than money.
All I think is…
How can I MAKE MORE TIME?
In the world of success coaching there is always lots of talk of growing ‘money trees’ or methods of ‘printing money’.
The idea is that you find ways to generate what you need in life, so that you can gain more control over how you live that life.
But money is not the only precious thing which we need to create.
For me, it’s TIME!
That’s what I REALLY want right now.
Time to get all the tasks done for this project…
Time to relax in the evening after a day’s work…
Time to watch Netflix…
Time to potter around the house and let my mind wander freely…
Time to enjoy a long autumnal weekend with my husband and daughter… enjoy long phone calls with my son who is on his US adventure…walking the dog in the park… going for a lazy lunch in the pub…
And, usually, I CAN enjoy these things.
Which makes me feel even more wistful about my lovely course business.
Because with courses, the bulk of the effort happens upfront.
After a course goes online, it becomes a digital asset that makes an income for me while I can get on with other things.
Now of course there are things you need to do but it feels different because a lot of the main things are already done.
The Facebook marketing gets clicks and signups automatically…
The squeeze page sits online getting email sign-ups automatically…
The course makes sales automatically…
The fulfilment of the course happens automatically…
The payments hit the bank account automatically.
It’s a bit like creating ONE document that you feed into a printer… hitting the PRINT button… and watching as it repeatedly reproduces your work, over and over.
You can go away, make tea, kick your shoes off and watch TV…
Yet your printer keeps on going for you, making more and more of what you created.
As close as you can get to PRINTING TIME!
If you’d love more time in your life, having an online course can deliver it in spades.
It might be that you are sick of constantly running to stand still when it comes to your job or your business… chasing deadlines… catching up in the evenings and weekends… always feeling the pressure, even when you’re trying to relax.
It might be that you wish you had more days free in the week to try other business projects… create a product… or learn a skill that could take you to the next level.
Or it could be that you dream of having loads of spare time to devote to your hobbies and interests, or to spend with your loved ones.
If you had an online asset bringing you a consistent passive income, these things would suddenly become possible.
A course could begin as a second income that eases the pressure… without you adding to your weekly workload.
Just make that one effort in the beginning…
And it could earn money for years.
More than that, it could allow you to reduce the amount of work you do without sacrificing the luxuries you enjoy in life.
