The Secret of Why a Good Online Course is Better than Google and AI

One of my lovely Course Creation Academy students emailed me the other day.

And what she said in that email really struck home:

Of course, I am ALWAYS glad to get emails from subscribers and Academy members.

But I was particularly glad to get this email from Sarah – because her kind comment gets to the crux of what I do and what we should all do as course creators.

Yes, on the surface of things, I am showing first-time course creators the steps and tools they need to create and launch a profitable digital product that earns them an income.

But it’s more than that…

Because you could potentially Google that information, right?

Maybe someone could hop onto an AI platform like ChatGPT and get it to generate a bunch of steps and resource recommendations.

However, that’s not all a course is…

If it was, then I’d be worried for me and for you!

Digital courses and eLearning would be on the wane as more and more people turned to AI and free online information.

Yet they’re not.

Quite the opposite in fact.

The eLearning global market was valued at $250 billion in 2023 and is expected to hit $490.20 billion by 2029.

By that point in time, the number of consumers in the online learning market is expected to top 1.1 billion globally.

And the reason?

Well, my CCA member, Sarah hit the nail on the head.

Because she explains that she has DONE the usual research into course creation… but I’ve shown her crucial elements that she’s missed.

Plus she likes the way she gets support “at every step”.

And this is so important…

What Digital Courses Are REALLY For…

In my Course Creation Academy I give first-timers the benefits of my wisdom and first-hand experience.

I am there – a REAL HUMAN – to guide them through the tricky parts without the pitfalls and headaches.

Google can’t do that.

AI can’t do that.

They can only supply information – not real experience, and not from a real person.

They produce what the algorithms predict that the reader wants to read.

Not what they really NEED.

There is absolutely no replacement for the intricate, complex human experience of learning a skill or achieving a goal.

That’s where you come in as a course creator (or future course creator).

You can share what you know and help your customers avoid all the common missteps… all the mistakes you made… all the obstacles you encountered… all the worries you experienced… all the knockbacks you got… all the glitches that drove you mad.

These are often things they don’t even know they need to know.

You take the knowledge you’ve accumulated for granted because you have been through these ups and downs – possibly numerous times.

But your student won’t.

So even though it might seem obvious or common sense to you, they will be learning something they NEVER would have found just by googling or using AI.

Because if they don’t even know about these potential problems to ask Google or AI in the first place, then how can they possibly get an answer?

That’s why courses are way superior to trying to work things out yourself using free online tools.

Information is everywhere – but genuine, trustworthy, relatable guidance is far harder to find.

It’s About Guidance More than Information

It’s a bit like when you start a new office job…

For those first few days everything is confusing, from where the loos are, to how the lifts work, to the names of the managers…

Never mind all the processes of the work itself – the software, the computing system, the tasks you need to grasp and carry out each day.

You need to BE THERE in the office, day after day, to start realising what you don’t know, and what you need to know.

It’s a case of making mistakes, looking stupid, and trying to learn from them.

However, a good digital course creator is like having a person from the office greet you at the door, take you by the hand and show you around.

Someone who’s been through the same awkward, frustrating process and knows all the tricks, shortcuts and pitfalls.

Not only do they show you around but they sit with you at your desk, helping you through every task until you know what you’re doing.

Then they do this EVERY DAY, for as long as you need them.

Imagine that!?

Well, this is the job of the digital course.

It’s a form of guidance, support and reassurance that customers will find invaluable.

That’s what makes them so appealing in the current digital age!
