How was school for you?
You might have been one of those who did brilliantly.
Gushing reports… great exam grades… fabulous qualifications…
If so – that’s fantastic!
BUT…
Doing ‘well’ at school isn’t just about how you perform in written tests.
What these grades don’t show are the other ways you can “do well” at school.
These include:
- Emotional intelligence – how well you’ve learned to empathise with others and understand what motivates people.
- Resilience – how well you’ve overcome obstacles, setbacks and adversity in life…
- Persistence – your ability to keep going, even when things don’t go your way.
- Enthusiasm – how passionate you are for certain subjects, or how your joy inspires other people.
- Generosity – how you’re always prepared to offer your time and energy to help others, even at your own cost.
- Collaboration – how good you are when working in a team.
- Leadership – the way you can bring a bunch of people together, organise them, and get the best out of each person.
- Curiosity – your drive to dig deep, do your research and find out how things really work.
- Honesty – how open, ethical and truthful you are, which inspires trust and confidence in others.
- Personality – the way that you attract, disarm or surprise people with your humour, passion and opinions.
These qualities don’t get graded. But in adulthood, they are often far more relevant than whether or not you remembered enough facts and figures in an exam.
It doesn’t really matter how well you did academically or how many letters you have after your name.
What matters is who you are today…Your special qualities and your unique experiences.
Well, the same thing could be said for the qualifications that people “think” they need in order to create a successful course.
What people REALLY look for in a course creator
It frustrates me when women say to me, “I am not qualified enough to create my own course.”
What they usually mean by qualified is…
- Having a massive salary or earning 7-figure incomes from their business
- Being the most ‘known’ expert in their field
- Being followed by thousands of people on social media
- Having impressive high profile job titles or roles in major companies
- Publication in books, magazines and websites
- Reviews and press coverage
These are great, of course, and if you have achieved any of these things, then you should absolutely shout about them when it comes to promoting a course.
But please understand…
They’re not necessary.
You don’t need to have achieved all of this stuff to create a course.
In the same way that school qualifications don’t always reveal your true qualities, neither do these things.
Yes, naturally you will need to have knowledge of what you are talking about and experience in what you are sharing.
However, what ALSO qualifies you are your ‘invisible qualities’ – the things that aren’t obvious when you look purely at earnings, accolades, social media followers and job titles.
This includes your enthusiasm… generosity… honesty… and empathy.
Your unique personality, humour, and passions…
Your qualities of persistence, resilience, curiosity, collaboration and leadership.
These are what really matter.
Because these are the qualities that people are looking for when they get help through a course.
When it comes down to it, your customer is looking for a genuine, likeable person who walks the walk.
They don’t really care about how many Instagram followers you have , what salary you earn or where you worked in the past.
And while you might not be the greatest star in your field of interest, that doesn’t mean you don’t have something special to offer.
Think of it this way…
Nobody else has lived your life, or gone through all the same challenges, trials, and tribulations as you.
Nobody else has quite the same combination or quirks, strengths and skills as you.
You are unique.
And that means you have something that others in your field do not have.
As long as you have found a way to achieve a specific goal, or overcome a specific problem, you can feel totally justified in sharing your methods with other people.
They just want someone who will look out for their interests, and help them get to where they want to go.
But let me show you…
If you’d like my help in pinpointing those attributes, skills and ideas you need to create a course, then please do join my free online workshop here: Online workshop – your first profitable online course.
I can help you get over those feelings of ‘imposter syndrome’ that make you feel you’re not qualified enough.
And I can help you find those invisible qualifications that truly attract people – and present them in the best light!
As you’ll see there is no reason why you don’t have what it takes to help yourself (and others) get ahead in life.
In fact, in the next email, I’d like to show you a way to create your own ‘origin story to get across to strangers who you are, what you’re all about, and why they should listen to you.
Yours,
