What Nelson Mandela Taught Me About Making Mistakes in My Business

I’m nearing the finish line on a significant project.

It’s not a digital course…

It’s a big multi-faceted event project for another part of my business.

So many moving parts!

So many things to schedule and keep on top of!

I did a similar project last year and, while the workload is very similar (ie. CRAZY), this time I’m approaching it with a huge advantage…

I now have a blueprint.

You see, the fact that I’ve been through this process before is invaluable.

Because – as with all business projects – some things went right and some things went wrong.

The things that went wrong were possibly MORE valuable to me because I fixed them, adapted to them or got around them.

Which meant I learned from them.

So this year, I not only have a proven roadmap to follow, but I am also very aware of all the potential pitfalls, setbacks and obstacles.

And I’ve got the strategies already in place to avoid them or deal with them easily when they come.

This is so important to understand…

Failures and Setbacks Are Crucial For your Success

It wasn’t just the wins that created the blueprint for success…

It was the mistakes.

The missteps.

The lessons I learned along the way.

And that’s the core of Mandela’s quote…

You either win, or you learn.

Which is so important for you to appreciate as a first-time course creator.

When you’re launching your first online course, or growing your business in any way, you’re going to run into issues—big ones, small ones… ones you didn’t even see coming!

The hitches can be frustrating, upsetting and make you want to tear your hair out.

But understand that they’re to be expected.

And these setbacks are perfectly fine.

In fact, they are more than fine…

They are essential.

Every roadblock is a lesson in disguise, every failure a stepping stone to improvement.

Each one offers another insight into how things could have been done differently, faster, or more effectively.

What’s important is that you learn from them, so next time they don’t happen—or at least, you’re better equipped to handle them.

So really, it’s a no-lose situation.

In fact, the only way to lose is to not bother trying to do anything worthwhile in life at all.

You won’t make ANY mistakes if you don’t do anything, right?

But if you want to succeed in creating your online course then you need to embrace the potential of messing something up or getting something wrong.

Technical glitches, marketing misfires, proofing mistakes, missing pieces of content, email broadcasting mishaps, struggles getting platforms and tools to work…

The key is to not let these discourage you, but instead use them as learning opportunities to improve your course for the next round—or even to adjust it on the fly.

Over time, the course you create will be a reflection not only of your expertise but of the lessons you’ve gathered along the way.

The Power of Following a Blueprint

Now, while learning through mistakes is valuable, there’s a shortcut you can take through the maze of potential disasters.

And that’s to follow a blueprint laid out by someone who’s been through it all before.

This is where my Course Creation Academy comes into play.

It’s designed to give you a proven roadmap to follow, and to help you avoid many of the common pitfalls that I and countless others have faced.

The advantage of following such a roadmap is that it gives you the benefit of someone else’s trial and error.

You’ll have the confidence of knowing that you’re not wandering blindly into your course creation journey.

I’ll give you clear steps to follow, along with access to the templates, formulas, tools and platforms that I’ve developed and tested over the years, saving you months of research, preparation, trial and error.

All you need to do is supply your knowledge and passion – and be willing to embrace the downs as well as the ups!

In fact lovely new student Geraldine just wrote to tell me:

Hi…this course is exactly what I have been looking for, for the last 18 months. It is so easy to navigate and I don’t feel overwhelmed…. Thank you Heloise and your team.

And feedback like that brightens my day.

If you want to take part too just join the waitlist here (there is no obligation) and I’ll let you know as soon as a place becomes available.
