Last Friday, the loveliest email popped into my inbox from a brand-new student named Tanya.

Hi Heloise,

My toddler somehow registered me to book an online training with you.

I saw the registration when I accessed my emails.

I have watched your video, and I would be delighted to join you on this project. I have spoken to one of your admin staff and explained I am able to start with you in January when my child starts play school although I am happy to register with you now.

Just writing to you to get a heads up on starting properly with you in January although I am able to work with you during his naps.

This all sounds great.

Amazing, isn’t it?

They say that having a child changes your life, but I don’t think they mean it in this way.

Somehow, Tanya’s toddler managed to hit the ‘register’ button for my free course creation masterclass without her realising it.

But that was just the first step, and Tanya was so inspired she has gone on to join my Course Creation Academy.

She’s getting ready to build her first course in January (toddler naptimes permitting!), and I couldn’t be happier for her.

It must be the oddest online booking I’ve received!

And yet…

It was the right decision.

The right course creator at the right time

When we chatted in more detail, Tanya explained that she was drawn to me precisely because she empathised with me starting a business with a new baby.

As you probably know, I began my business in a cramped Islington home with my newborn son in a cradle at my feet.

Zac often cried and refused to nap, but the good thing about information publishing is that I could work in the short chunks of time when he was quiet or asleep (often while frantically rocking his baby seat with my foot to keep him quiet)

So I can see why Tanya was happy when the training began, as she could see I was a kindred spirit.

It goes to show that, for some people, you will be the best possible course creator…

While, for others, you won’t be!

That’s the way it goes.

In my case, I’m not a slick and polished performer.

I’m not on the big speaker circuit, doing endless networking events (nothing wrong with those, but they just don’t work with my personality and current life stage).

But I do understand the pressures of starting a new venture and juggling a young family.

And I know that some of us need to find quick and easy ways of making a course work for us, even if we’re super busy, stressed and tired.

So I think that this little toddler connected their mum to the right person in this case.

I think there’s another lesson here, too…

Sometimes we all need a nudge!

As you know, I’m a person who is big on planning and setting firm goals (check out my free planning guide here – no need to fill out any details – the 48-page resource will download directly for you), so leaving things to chance is not my recommended option in life.

BUT…

This is such a wonderful example of a chance event helping Tanya find me just at the right time.

With a little guiding hand, of course!

Sometimes a gentle push is what we need.

Taking the plunge and embarking on your first course project is a bit like standing on the precipice with a bungee cord around your ankle…

You can become frozen with indecision.

A little shove could be all that’s between doing it, and not doing it at all.

Of course, we don’t all have toddlers to secretly push buttons for us (at least, I don’t anymore, as mine are a little older now 😥)

And we don’t all have close friends who understand us enough to give us those perfect words of encouragement just when we need a push to act…

This means it can sometimes require an act of bravery on your part to take that small action that changes your life.

But when it comes to course creation, the great thing is that you don’t need to take a dramatic plunge into the unknown.
