Why an online business takes the strain out of extreme events

There’s a lot of panic right now…

The Coronavirus is spreading quickly across the world.

According to Chris Whitty, the UK’s Chief Medical Officer, we need to brace ourselves for an epidemic.

He reckons that around 1/5 of the population is likely to be affected.

But in a worst-case scenario, we could see an 80% infection rate.

I do worry for elderly and sick people with low immunity, who could potentially die from the virus if they catch it.

And there are other concerns too…

When people get sick, they can’t go to work…

For some on zero-hour contracts, they’ll not earn any money.

And for many businesses, it could mean taking huge losses that they cannot afford.

Even if you don’t get ill…

There could be enforced travel bans, work lockdowns and canceled events… never mind the prospect of parents having to deal with closures of schools and nurseries.

In short – it could turn into a nightmare.

For some people, however, there will be far less strain and worry…

If you have an online business, you are saved from a lot of the hassles and strains of daily life.

And these really come into their own when there’s a crisis like this.

There’s no need to commute. No need to leave the house. No staff to worry about.

You can continue to outsource any jobs you cannot do online….

You can continue to deliver your products…

Even if there’s a total lockdown.

This is particularly true of the course creation business.

With a course, everything happens on a website, with communication on email and social media, so there’s never a need to be in physical contact with others.

It’s completely self-contained.

Your customers can continue to buy from you, even if they’re shut inside, unable to go to regular shops.

It may even be that during an event like this, there’s a spike in sales as people who are confined to home look for something productive to do with their time.

And if you do get ill yourself, your course can continue selling – with automated payments, delivery, thank you emails and upsell offers going out even if you’re languishing in bed.

That’s one of the best things about an online course, once you do the hard work setting up your course, it largely runs by itself.

If you’re interested in this idea, then please watch this free webinar where I take you through all the basics of course creation – I think you’ll be surprised about how easy it is these days.

Without meaning to come across like a doom-monger…

Events like this are becoming more common

We live in a time of extreme events – political turmoil, economic crashes, floods, heatwaves, droughts, and now this global pandemic.

Disruptions are likely to become a regular occurrence.

Having your own online business, even if it’s a side hustle you run in your spare time, offers you an extra later of financial insulation.

As a mother, I have counted my lucky stars that I run my own business whenever my kids have been sick.

I’ve been able to stay at home for as long as I need and look after them without taking a pay cut, groveling to a boss, or making desperate excuses.

The same goes for a flooded kitchen, power cut, leaky roof and all other manner of things that can happen out of the blue.

And there are the good things in life, too, where you might want to spend the week confined to your home.

For instance, we got a tiny puppy for our daughter recently and it’s been wonderful to stay at home and look after her while my daughter is at school

Sometimes, you just want to spend time with family and make precious memories to cherish – and that’s what having your own online business can do, particularly with a course or two ticking over.

I’d love to give you a glimpse of the peace of mind you can get with a course. So please do watch my webinar, where I can explain more about how easy it is to create a course of your own and the many benefits of doing so.

I hope you enjoy it and don’t hesitate to ask any questions afterwards if you are unclear on anything..
