For everything there is a season…
And the online course industry is no exception.
Every year, as we speed towards September, there is always a deluge of launches.
It’s around this time that many of the big US names in eLearning and course creation make big announcements about their forthcoming products.
And with that comes a whole load of pre-launch warm-up and marketing.
You might have already seen a lot of it on your Facebook feed, Instagram, or other social media channels.
Examples include….
- Daily ‘Facebook live’ broadcasts
- Endless ads
- Pop up Facebook groups
- Offers of quick quizzes and tests
- Lead magnets, infographics and prizes
- and Joint Ventures.
This is all from publishers, gurus, and course creators trying to build up their databases in preparation for their big autumn launches.
It’s like a crazy online party where everyone is trying to get noticed.
To make as many potential customers aware of their pre-launch innovations, the big names do LOTS of advertising spending on Facebook, Instagram and Google.
In fact, there is one launch campaign on right now that is using ALL of the techniques I’ve mentioned, from live broadcasts to quizzes and multiple joint ventures (so you’ll see lots of people talking about the same thing).
While it’s very impressive, a lot of what these guys are putting out might make you feel a little intimidated.
All those slick video presentations… the many beautifully laid out resources and guides with professional-looking design… the sheer volume of advertising that you know must cost a fortune.
It can feel like it’s only the big players with big budgets who can yell loudest above all the noise to make any money.
You might be thinking…
“WHAT? I can’t compete with that!”
And I don’t blame you.
I mean, after all, if you are just beginning with course creation or even just thinking about it, maybe it’s all a bit intimidating?
Can you really create a bestselling course?
How can you possibly get noticed with all this amazing stuff going on?
Do you have to do the same things in order to launch your own course?
It’s enough to send anyone into a panic.
So let me give you the good news…
You don’t need to bring out the big guns.
You don’t need to spend lots of money plastering multiple social media feeds with slick, polished content in order to build up to a big launch.
There is another way…
Why you don’t need to spend thousands
Okay, so first, up, let me say that I’m not knocking any of these gurus who are splashing the cash online right now.
They are great, talented, lovely folk, and their launch methods really do work (I know, because I have used the same approach myself before and will do in the future).
They spend the money on these pre-launch strategies, because, when done correctly, they work.
However, there are drawbacks…
This kind of high-level launch campaign requires a LOT of work and investment.
That means either having a team of staff with skills in copywriting, design and production… OR outsourcing some of that work, which can be very expensive.
That’s fine when you’ve got a few successful courses under your belt…
Not only will you have some cash behind you, a proven concept and most likely some staff, but you can balance the amount you spend on marketing with the amount you’re can confidently predict you’ll make.
However, if you’re only just starting out, I don’t recommend you take this approach.
Investing so much time and money in your pre-launch campaign is a big risk.
Instead, you can take a softer, more gradual approach where you spend a very small amount on your marketing to start with.
Then, as sales come in, you reinvest those in your marketing, scaling up each time.
For instance, in my Course Creation Academy, I show my students how to take a starting advertising budget of just £90, then put it in a few choice places on social media that are proven to get a response and scale gradually.
Once you know how to do this, with the copy templates and strategy in place, you can start to draw in your first customers.
So there’s no need to fork out thousands upfront and pin everything on a big profit launch.
That’s something you can do in the future (it’s bloody hard work but it’s very exciting and lucrative!)…
Actually – if I haven’t mentioned it before there is even a way to launch your course before you even complete it.
Effectively, it means you get PAID to create it :-).
If you are part of my Course Creation Academy lookout for a brand new bonus coming your way that shows you exactly how you can do this (I show you step by step).
